[Only in spanish] The selection of these twelve projects aims to highlight, within Sebastián Irarrázaval's extensive built and unbuilt work, some very specific themes that emphasize his ideas about architecture and the design devices used to translate those ideas into eloquent signs. It is not, therefore, a monograph in the classical sense of the term, but rather an attempt to clarify how these themes translate into architectural decisions and characteristics. Each project file presents not only images and drawings, but also brief descriptions taken from the reports that have accompanied each work since the initial intuitions of the project. Before moving on to the main body of this book, it is worth noting that being born and raised in a world city such as Santiago de Chile, surrounded by mountains, hills of varying heights, and crossed by the Mapocho River, which flows through flat valleys, means facing an extremely complex geography and climate. It is this geography, unstable due to frequent and strong earthquakes, rather than the climate and beyond other biographical events and specific training in the field of architecture, that unquestionably marks the way in which Irarrázaval interprets the relationship between architecture and context..
[Only in spanish] This book presents an essential selection from the portfolio of Emilio Duhart H. (1917-2006), a fundamental figure in Chilean architecture. By interweaving episodes of his life and work with the expansion of the Modern Movement as a global phenomenon, this chronicle places Duhart at the center of a constant dialogue between the universal precepts of modern architecture and the particularities of the Chilean cultural landscape. From his early contact with Walter Gropius in the 1940s to his collaboration with Le Corbusier in the 1950s, Duhart developed an architectural narrative that not only adopted but transformed the ideas of modernity, translating them into a language deeply tied to local circumstances. Duhart's personal and professional trajectory offers a fascinating perspective for understanding the global expansion of modern architecture, exploring issues that were central to its dissemination such as migration, education, social class, housing, and urban challenges. Seen in this way, his life and work are represented as a richly connected matrix, able to communicate with other iconic examples from around the world.
